I thoroughly enjoy fall--I love the crisp, cool mornings and clear, starry nights. It drives my brother crazy when I wear sweaters or sweatshirts with shorts, but that combo is another thing I love about fall.
Plus, there is pumpkin spice EVERYTHING! I could drink pumpkin spice coffee every morning and never get tired of it. And every Thanksgiving, I search for a new pumpkin dessert to add to the bounty. Not to mention, the fall season is much different at Heirloom Acres. Even though our mum crop was a failure this year, it has been so much fun having customers come
out to shop for mums, pumpkins, pansies, and all the other fall annuals. The bronzes, purples, golds, and yellows are so vibrant and just scream AUTUMN.
It is a very short season though. People start decorating before Labor Day and by Halloween, they are ready to start on Christmas. I read somewhere that if a retailer wasn't 3 months early, they were late. This may be true. I am definitely a newcomer to the retail game and admittedly have a lot to learn. However, I have lived enough to know that each season of life needs
to be savored. They end all too abruptly. I want to squeeze all I can out of this beautiful autumn, and I want to take time to actually think about everything I'm grateful for when Thanksgiving arrives.
It is just one day. But I think it is an extremely important one that we Americans tend to overlook in our rush to Christmas.
I know as a retailer, I cannot afford to wait until after Thanksgiving to start promoting Christmas. But as an individual, I am going to do my best to enjoy the season I am in.

I am right there with you Caroline. Autumn is my favorite season and Thanksgiving is my favorite state of mind.
